always use a metal
Measuring for your new blinds is really simple and straightforward, just see the guides below. We recommend that you use a metal tape measure for accuracy (cloth ones tend to stretch) and have a pencil and pad handy.
Remember that the only real difference between a recess and an exact fitting is that if you specify recess fitting we will make adjustments to the sizes to ensure a perfect fit.
First ensure that the recess your blind is going into is not obstructed in any way so the blind can hang freely when fully extended. Look out for protruding window handles and tiles.
Measure the width in three places at the top, middle and bottom and write down the smallest measurement.
Do the same for the drop, measuring on the right, in the centre and on the left. Again, write down the smallest measurement to the nearest millimetre and use this measurement to place your order.
If you prefer you can measure in inches (not forgetting fractions) and order that way. We will make your blind to fit into the recess perfectly. There is no need for you to make any adjustments; we’ll do that for you.
Decide how much you want to overlap the blind on all sides - to minimise light leakage we recommend that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm each side. The overlap at the bottom of the blind is a matter of personal choice but please take into account obstacles such as radiators.
Measure the exact width and drop of the area you would like your blind to cover.
We will then make your blind to your exact sizes.
If you are measuring an existing blind that's fine but don't get caught out with roller blinds. On a roller blind the measurements we use to make your blind are bracket to bracket and not the width of the fabric, which is usually about 35mm shorter. Measuring from bracket to bracket will ensure your roller blind is the perfect size.
Measuring for bay windows is just as simple and straightforward. Simply choose the guide for the product you’d like.
